Cake Design
The Queen of Hearts is a small bakery and pastry shop with no desire to mass-produce cakes and pastries. Queen of Hearts owner Terry Morrow meets with clients to determine their flavor and design preferences. A limited number of wedding and special occasion cakes are made each week as space is limited. It is a good idea to have your initial wedding cake consultation 6 months prior to your wedding date. A nonrefundable, nontransferable deposit of $100 reserves your date. Balance is payable by cash, check or credit card. (Cash or credit card only if paid later than 2 weeks before wedding date).
We have an album of pictures with many of the wedding cakes we have created, and some pictures of cakes we would like to do. We are very flexible and open to your ideas. We encourage you to come to your cake consultation with pictures of cakes you like or even a drawing of what you have in mind. We like to know your color scheme, what kind of fresh flowers you may be using, number of guests invited and any wedding theme you may have in mind - from a reception outside at the family farm to a black tie affair at the country club.
Cake consultation is by appointment. Initially all we need to know is time, date, reception site and approximate number of cake servings. Specific details on flavor and design should be finalized at least two weeks prior to your event. Wedding cakes are priced per serving. Price is based on decoration. After finalizing the number of servings and design, we can let you know the remaining balance due. |
Sizing of your cake
Each cake tier is approximately four inches high. Each wedding cake serving is four inches high, one-inch wide and cut two inches deep into the tier. We use a chart with number of servings per tier to determine the number of tiers you will need. The design you choose also influences the number of tiers used. Full sheet and half sheet cakes are also available. |
Preparing your wedding cake
All cake layers, fillings and icings are made from scratch using the finest and freshest ingredients available. For a Saturday wedding, your cake is assembled Thursday afternoon then chilled overnight to set the filling (Bavarian cream, chocolate mousse etc.). The cake is decorated on Friday. This timeline allows a full day for decoration - some designs are quite time-consuming. Your cake is then refrigerated until the time of delivery.

Flavors
Cake layers of Vanilla, Chocolate, Spice, Lemon, or Chocolate Chip chiffon ( a very light, moist cake). Also available: Banana, Devils Food, Calypso Carrot Cake (with pineapple, coconut and walnuts), Carrot Cake, Lemon Buttermilk Poundcake, Poppyseed Cake.
Each cake tier is made up of three to four layers of cake layered with filling.
Possible cake fillings include Vanillabean Bavarian cream, fresh raspberries, strawberries and/or blueberries (add $25 per 100 servings for addition of fresh fruit), chocolate mousse, white chocolate mousse with a touch of Grand Marnier, lemon cream, cream filling flavored with liquors ( for example, chocolate Bavarian cream flavored with Bailey's Irish Cream), milk chocolate hazelnut mousse, praline cream.

Delivery
We deliver to a 40-mile radius of our shop. Delivery in this area is $70.00. This includes set-up of your cake and placement of fresh flowers, cake topper, etc. We deliver to your reception site one hour prior to your guests arriving. Most florists leave the flowers for us to arrange. Some florists prefer to arrange the flowers themselves. If this is the case, or if your floral arrangement is very elaborate, we will coordinate a set-up time with your florist.
Queen of Hearts is closed Sunday and Monday. For delivery on these days, add $30.00. |
